exam week

today in human geo we did not really do too much. we went over what to expect on the exam there is a lot a questions that I need to review. I have all my notes and and quizzes from the past two quarters.  The things I need to study more are site and location, the prime meridian GPS, and some other things from earlier this year.  Our exam is on Wednesday and Im definitely nervous but I think if I keep studying I will be fine. I have a lot of material to help me study so I hope I do well.

sub

Today in human geography Mr Schick wasn't here so we had a sub. Our sub was Mrs. Howe, she is my advisor. we had to look on mr schicks blog for our assignment. We didn't have too much to do today. We just were told to review and study for our exam next week. I looked over all of my notes, tests and quizzes, powerpoints the website, and previous blogs. We were supposed to have a test on Monday but thankfully he canceled it. Im really happy about this and I'm sure everyone else is too because it would have been supper stressful with all of the exams coming up.

absent

I was absent today so this is my blog. I hope I don't have too much makeup work to do.

todays human geo class

today in human geo class we didn't do very much. we went over the test and answered any questions that anyone had. Also in class we talked about the extra credit. I already did the essay in my last blog and I talked to my mom about the money part but she wouldn't let me because I don't have my own  credit card. mr schick told us that our class had the most people that have donated money. the down side of this is the its only five people out of about twenty something. in the past years mr shock said that there were way more. after we went over the quiz we kind of just had a chill class and talked to our friends which was nice to take a break.

todays class

In Human Geo all we talked about was this extra credit thing we were offered to do. Its all about this website called Kivia. Kivia is a website were you can loan people money to help people and their lives. It is for people all over the world that need help funding things like materials and necessities for there lifestyle, jobs, businesses, or homes. From what I've looked at a lot of people are getting funded for live stock such as chickens, cows, and rams. They also need chicken feed, grains, rice and other materials similar to this. There are categories you can specifically help and specific countries. You could search Mexico and then education, art, food, health, anything you want. And you could help an entire group of people reach their goal with only a loan of twenty five dollars or however much you want to give. And since it is a loan, after the goal is accomplished you will receive you money back.

last nights blog

This is my blog from yesterday because my computer wasn't working last night. So yesterday in the beginning I missed a few mins because I was with the counselor. We had a test yesterday. The first part of the test was on the CIA website. There were fifteen questions that we had to answer in fifteen minutes. there were questions about the energy, the language, the regions, birth and death rate, and population of the world and different countries. I think and hope I did well on the test because it was nit very difficult. There were also questions about three different population pyramids. On the very back of the test there were two bonus questions and I had no idea what so ever what the answers were.

Today in human geo mr schick let the whole class retake the pop quiz from the day before. Im glad he did this because the class all together did not do so well. Once everyone retook the quiz we all felt better about our grades. Most of our grades aren't so great because we don't do the blogs. So this definitely helped. And then for the second part of class we got a project assignment thats due next class. For this project we have to make a google docs about two different countries and their population graphs. We have to also include what the shape is and what it means along with four questions. Doing that you will receive a B. However if you answer the four questions, you could receive an A. My group is me Evelyn and Mary; we are trying for an A because it would really help our grades.

Pop quiz and drill

Today in Human Geography class there was an evacuation drill. Today was not a good day for a evacuation drill because it was super cold outside. The alarm went off and it wasn't very loud in the class room but once you got in the hall it was very loud. Also we were standing outside for a while!  To top that off when we came back from the drill we had a pop quiz. Yay. I really do not like when we have pop quizzes because its just so stressful and for this one especially because we only had ten seconds to answer. I was definitely worried about this because I didn't remember much. However it turned out that I only got three questions wrong. And this also brought my grade up so I'm happy with the outcome of todays human geo class.

my computer died last night

Yesterdays human geo class we were looking at population pyramids for the whole class. We looked at many different places not only in the US but in other countries too. We looked out counties on the other side of the world such as Japan and china, but also Nigeria. From the US we looked at a place in North Carolina. It was an area for a military base and a college town so there was a lot of people in their twenties.  We also looked at Manhattan. Manhattan is a big business area in New York. There are many opportunities in New York for fashion education art business and much more so It would make sense for more people in their twenties and thirties and very few children.

today human geo class

At first today in Human Geography class we talked about Mr. Schick and how he used to work on movies. He had to travel a lot for long periods of time to do this as a job. Doing this made him miss out on a lot of family events. After the we looked over our previous notes for last week. We made sure we had everything that we could possibly need for a test. Since we did this I think our class will be having a test soon. We started new notes on population growth. the are three shapes to help understand, theres a Christmas tree, a box, and a cup. This helps with understanding if the populations life expectancy, and birth rate is high. One thing that all counties have in common is that women have a longer life expectance.

blog wouldn't work last night

In human geography today we talked about life and life expectancy.  Life expectancy is the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year.  the highest life  expectancy is in  Macro with 89.52 total and 85.63 are men and 93.58 is women. The United States is  number 42 in the world with 79.68 total and 77.32 are men and 81.97 are women. However the lowest life  expectancy is in Chad with  49.81 total and 48.64 are men and 51.03 are women. in class we realized that women in all three of the countries live longer. This is because of many reasons such as military and then risk taking.

test day

Today in human geography we had our final big test for the quarter. I studied for a while last night, and in our off mod today. I think and hope I did well because our grades close tomorrow. I thought the test wasn't that difficult. There were a few that I got stuck on like the question about GPS, but we didn't learn about that. I wonder if we got it right we get an extra point. There was another one about degrees and the country were it was located but I just took a guess so hopefully it was correct. I felt good about the test so hopefully I did well for our last grade. It's crazy how fast the quarter went by and I can't believe its over.

review for test

Today in human geography class it was a pretty easy and chill class.  we went over our blogs from yesterday that had the questions. we did this so we could get more questions for the test tomorrow. Each student had to come up with one question to contribute; mr schick made a list of all of the main ideas of the questions. We got him to put them up on the board so everyone could take pictures of it so we would know what to expect and study. I think this will really help everyone review. The test tomorrow might be difficult but if we study hard enough I don't think it will be too bad. Hopefully it will be mostly multiple choice because I'm not too good and essay questions. However short answer questions aren't too bad, for me at least.

questions for test

1.  What is globalization ? A process that involves the  entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.  2.  Why does the US make products in other countries? Other countries can afford to have more workers in factories and not have to pay them.  3.  Name three republican states in the Deep South region? Mississippi Alabama  Georgia

dogs&tears

today in human geography class Mr. Schick had explained why he wasn't at school yesterday.  It was so sad!! it was because he had to put his dog down. We were talking about this for most of the class, most of the girls in the class were crying. I felt so bad because I have been through the same thing twice. Not too long ago we had to put a family dog down. I was at my friends house when it happened and I felt terrible that I didn't get to say goodbye. The other time was when I was in fourth grade my dog had a stroke and we had to take him to the vet after school and put him down. My old dog was a golden retriever, and that what I have now too.

sub

Today in human geo we had a sub. In that case we had an assignment on the computer. We had to take more notes on Globalization, and thinking globally and act locally. Geographers think about scale at many levels, from local to global. At a local scale, such as an urban neighborhood, geographers tend to see unique features. At the global scale, encompassing the entire world, geographers tend to see broad patterns. The phrase meant that the environment was being harmed by processes like global warming that were global in scale, but it could be improved by actions, like using  less gasoline, that were local in scale. is a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.Globalization means that the scale of the world is shrinking not in size but the ability for people to interact with others.

16 and voting

Today in human geo class we had a few different discussions. But the main one that I remember Mr.  Schick saying was that he this that when you turn sixteen you can vote. Our class had lots of different opinions on this. However, some were the same type of opinion. My opinion was one that was the same to others. Our opinion was that at the age of sixteen you are still learning about everything going on. Sixteen year olds and most other teens aren't worried about the election, and I'm nat saying thats a good thing, but its just how it is. If they did decide to vote their choice will be influenced a lot by their parents. Teens have a lot to take on, a lot of stress, and are very busy so I just don't think they would take a good look into the candidates and care enough to vote.

pop quiz

Today in Human Geo Class we had a pop quiz in the first part of class. After everyone finished the test we went on to the CIA website. We were on there for an assignment on countries and their population. We had to take the top twenty five most populated countries in the world and write them down in order. after that was completed we had to take pens, pencils, or markers and color the countries in on the map. The most populated country was China and it had over one billion people. However the least populated country was the Pitcairn Islands with a population of 54 people. Most people didn't finish. In that case we had to finish it for homework. This was fine with me because I only had to color in a few more countries.

today in human geo

Today in class we took notes and taken more about site and situation, and regions and cultural landscape. region is an area of earth defined by one or more descriptive characteristics. cultural landscape is the combination of both physical and human characteristics that uniquely define a certain area. An are

Flooding

Today in human geo class we finished taking notes on situation. We talked about how you can compare two places like Mississippi and Florida to help someone understand a place better. We talked about how many people know and have been to Florida and few to Mississippi. Since they have FL has the same weather you can describe Florida and it is similar to MS so people will get an idea. We also talked about the hurricanes and the effects on different places. Houston is one of the busiest cities so when the hurricane hit, the flooding happened quicker than in other places because of poor drainage. Houston, New York, Chicago, LA, and other busy cities are like this since its so busy and all concrete. Unlike the busy cities, suburbs and less crowded places will not drain because there is less people and more areas in which to drain rain water. We also talked about how common flooding is in Houston that they don't offer flood insurance so people will have to pay thousands of dollars. This

Class

Human geography was second period today. In class we went over the big picture map questions that we did last week. It was easy so I got them right. After that we started talking about Africa and some of the countries. Mr. Schick had said that when he was in school the only time he learned about Africa was they learned about Egypt. Later in class we started talking about Korea and nuclear bombs    If we were to hit Korea with a nuclear bomb the toxins would travel in the wind. Also depending on how big the bomb is it could get to China and kill tons of innocent people and little children. Finally we talked about our thoughts on the Ravens and other football players taking a knee or staying the the locker room during the National Anthem. Mr. Schick pulled a Socrates move once again so we could express our opinions.

todays class

Today was my second day back from being sick, it was my first class of human geo since last week because we did not have class yesterday. In class today we got our tests back! Anyone who got an A got the bell rang and if you got a 100 then you got a double ring! I got a B and I'm okay with that but I will try harder next time.  After that we took notes on Mental Maps. How do you describe where things are? How do you describe your daily routine? A mental map is a persons point of view of their area of interaction. It is most commonly called your activity space. No one has a totally accurate image off the world. After that we got an assignment for drawing maps.

Sick Day

Today I wasn't in school because I was sick. Mr. Schick wants us to still blog, so this is my blog. I will be at school tomorrow.

Todays Class

Today in human geo class we took our first test. Our test was on A Message to Garcia, Socrates, and the vocal that went along with it. Personally, I thought this test was easy. I thought the essay would be hard, but it surprisingly wasn’t. One essay was about the quote from socrates “The unexamined life is not worth living”, and how we personally think of this. I think that this is important because it is good to have questions about almost everything. The other essay was about the trial and death of Socrates. I wrote about why he went to trial, what happened during the trial and then how he was poisoned. So all, in all I think it went very well.  Also, Mr. Schick said that if we all get an A on it we get to have a pizza party so hopefully we all did well.

Socrates in class

Today in Human Geography class we identified important key terms and learned about Socrates, his life, and how he died. One of the key terms was agora. Agora is a public open space used for assemblies and markets. It was the center off athletic, artistic, spiritual, and political life in a city state. Another word was polis. A city state in Ancient Greece, especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes is polis. It is also the origin of the words such as politics, poll, etc. We learned why the year 508 BC was so important. It is so important to the ancient greeks because in that year democracy was introduced in Athens by Cleisthenes. This was the first time in record history that people had revolted against their ruler. Then we learned about Socrates. He was in 470 BC in Athens. Socrates was philosopher, teacher, and the main source of the Western Thought. As a teacher he met with young students in workshops. He taught them by asking them what the thought or fel

today's class 9.5.17

Today in class we took a closer look into A Message to Garcia. A Message to Garcia is an inspirational essay written by Elbert Hubbard. It was written in March of 1899 and 40 million copies were sold. A Message to Garcia was translated into 37 languages and made into a film once in 1916 and then once again in 1936. The setting off this was during the Spanish-American War. A Message to Garcia includes Rowan, an army officer, Garcia, a revolutionary seeking Cuban independence from Spain, and McKinley, the 25th president of the U.S. McKinley was the U.S President from 1897-1901. He was assassinated 6th months into his 2nd term by an anarchist. In this message it is telling us to take the initiative, and doing what is right without being told to do so. In class we learned about the word arete. Arete is a Greek word that means excellence off any kind. It is the fulfillment of purpose or function but also the act of living up to ones full potential.

A Letter to Garcia

A Message to Garcia  is about how to be responsible. It's also about when you are given a task you should do whatever it takes to get it finished. You should complete the task without hesitation and without asking a million questions. While doing tasks you going to face difficulty and you need to know how to work through it and not get frustrated. You need to work hard all your life no matter the costs. Yes, it is very unfair when people do not try or do any work, but your going to have to ignore them. You need to ignore them because they are going to get no where in life and that is their fault. I agree with the author, Elbert Hubbard. I agree because you can see the difference between those who work hard and want to succeed and those who do not care. The people who do care will go far in life in anything I might want to do. On the other hand, the people who don't care will end up staying where they are at this moment. Think about that. My Five Point Action Plan In my f

The Second Day at JC

Today was the second day of school. We had our first Spanish class today! It was fun, and I learned a lot already. The only bad thing was that we got some homework, but it wasn't too hard. In advisory today we had a mini breakfast go toast with butter and jelly. Last period today was Human Geography. I look forward to this class because its always fun and a bunch of my friends are in this class. Today we had to turn in our blogs from last night. Some people had trouble submitting it so everyone helped each other! After all the blogs were submitted, we went over the syllabus. The syllabus basically stated all of the rules and expectations for Human Geography. It was last period so I was ready to go to practice! We went to our locker room, changed and got some food. The varsity soccer team had a game against Concordia Prep. My friend Philip is on that soccer team so it was nice to see him.

My First Day at John Carroll

Today was my first full day as a freshman at John Carroll. Although I'm sad that summer is over, I am  excited, and ready to start a new year at a new school. My first class today was Biology with Mrs. Deroba. In this class, we went over what we are going to learn this year, and so far it seems interesting. After Biology, the next class was Health and Wellness. Mrs. Gauthier is my teacher and I really like her. I think this class will be easy for me because I like to learn about our bodies and our health. This class could also help me because I want to be a physical therapist when I grow up. Then, it was time for advisory. My advisor is Mrs. Howe, she is also the varsity soccer coach! Then we had Algebra; my teacher is Mr. McIntyre. I think I will succeed in this class because he is very helpful and explains everything clearly. After Algebra, it was time for lunch! Intro to Bible was after lunch. This class will be fun because there are a bunch of my friends in it! Then it was time
