test

Today in Western Civilization we had a test. I thought that the test was on the FALL of Rome however it was on all of Rome. some of the test I remember from the older power points but the rest of it I forgot. Overall the class average for this test was a 68 which is failing. I think mr schick should've curved it but we have text book work to to so hopefully that will help my grade.

Philosophers

Today in Western Civ we finished taking notes on the power point. The notes today were about different Philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and  Aristotle. Socrates  looked to science and logic for explanations of how the world works. He started the socratic method which fostered critical thinking.  "The unexamined life into worth the living" was a famous quote of his. Socrates was charged with serious crimes, Disrespecting the Gods and corrupting the youth. He didn't deny what he had done. Instead, he asked for free meals for life instead. He was Sentenced to death by poison hemlock.  Plato wrote the apologia to Socrates' trial. He was a student and follower of socrates who wrote teachings and describes the trial in Apology. Aristotle was a s tudent of Plato. Aristotle helped foster the idea of Athens intellectual. His school was Lyceum. it was a place were all the information was.    He did not invent the internet. The Persian War

Today in Western Civ we took a lot of notes off of the power point that was about the Persian war.  The Persians had a very large army with a large amount of resources. However, they were not as motivated as the Greeks. The Greeks had many different techniques for battle.  We talked about the different battle strategies like the phalanx. The phalanx was a square of soldiers that had long spears and interlocking shields. This was very helpful during battles because  it  helped lower the causalities in the battles tendentiously.   The greeks ended up being victorious in the outcome of the war. After they  won the war the Athenian came up with something called the Delian League. This was what made all of the Greek city-states come as one a build their own army and navy so that they can defend themselves against any attacks that come.
