group project
Today in Western Civ we finished watching the video by hank green about philosophy. Once we finished the video we got with our groups and we worked on the group project. my part of the project is about the different events in the Ancient Greek olympics.
The ancient greece olympics only had eight events including:
Running - the stade race, which was a test of speed, the diaulos (two stades - 400m foot race), dolichos (ranging between 7 and 24 stades).
Jumping- Athletes used stone or lead weights called halteres to increase the distance of a jump. They held onto the weights until the end of their jump, and then release them backwards.
Discus throw- The discus was originally made of stone. It is very similar to today's freestyle discus throw.
Wrestling - highly valued as a form of military exercise without weapons. This event ended when one of the contestants admitted defeat.
Boxing- there was no weight classifications, scoring system, and no time limit. Boxing was brital and could possibly end in death
Pankration- This event was A combination of boxing and wrestling with little restrictions
